On the road again...From Xilitla, we headed to Sotano de las Golondrinas which is a huge hole in the ground where bright green parakeets have their nests. Thousands of parakeets fly out of the hole at dawn to go find food and back into the hole at dusk. The drive up is a very rocky, steep road and it's a little hike to get there, so, especially with kids, we thought it best to visit in the middle of the day and miss this daily ritual. We did see a few birds fly out, which was beautiful, but the hole itself was quite a site. We paid a few bucks to have a rope around our waist (with a guy on the other end) to look over the edge.

We ventured over to the other side of the hole and walked on big rocks to get a closer look. Some of us got to lay
down (with a rope tied around our waist, of course)
and look in. On this side, you could see the bottom.
If you look closely, you can see the bright green parakeets flying. I think we were very lucky to
see them in the middle of the day! It was amazing!
