Hierve el Agua and the Tule Tree

The third day we were in Oaxaca, we went to Hierve el Agua and the Tule Tree, two sites I was disappointed I didn't see the first time.  We headed out at a decent time in the morning to be able to get to Hierve el Agua before it got too hot.  Little did we know that there was going to be a strike of the taxis from all over the city on the main road to...basically everywhere.  After being detoured right back up to where we came from, we went on an adventure through the back streets of Oaxaca.  After a dicey turnaround on one of the roads, we got lucky and followed a truck going towards oncoming traffic on the road to where we needed to be...police on the bull horn at us and everything...good job leading the convoy and getting us where we needed to be Mark!!
Leading the strike...

The line up of taxis...it went on for miles!

Beautiful views on the way up to Hierve el Agua

The kids weren't as interested in the landscape

Oh, Mexico...gotta love it!!!

Mark, Lydia, Don, Charlotte, Ethan, and Ryan

A natural pool with thermal water.

A view some of the petrified waterfalls...really cool!

Standing on part of the petrified waterfall.

Me and my boys.  Lydia did not like this place...

The thermal spring that feed the pools

Don

Lydia refused to come further than the tree, so Mom took over for Don

Agave field...for the Mezcal!

Enjoying the view with Lynda

Lynda was making me nervous so far out on the edge

A few of us walked further into the park...that's a view of
where we were just standing!

Making mezcal!

Yep, that's a huge rock in our lane!

The church next to the Tule Tree

The famous Tule Tree...it's trunk has the largest diameter in the world

It was truely an amazing thing to see!

Me and my tired, sick Lydia

I thought this looks like an antelope.

The stats...

The women got to go to Centro for a couple of hours...by ourselves!!

Chapulines
Chris has been looking for these ceramic ladies for her mom for two years.
They're made in Oaxaca!  We found out where they are made, and Chris and
I (with Nolan and Lydia) went on an adventure.  Amazingly, we found it
(destroyed road and all!).  Of course, I had to buy myself one as a reward!

This is where we thought it was
Where is actually was.  The nicest door on the block.

I got a lady without the paint and pot on her head.

The drive home...

Iztacchuatl - the mountain next to Popocatpetl (the volcano that's
been spitting lava and threatening an erruption for the last few months!).

On the way to Oaxaca, we couldn't even see an outline of Popo or Iztacchuatl
because there was so much smoke.  It was cool to see!
