Since November, Ethan has been participating in Odyssey of the Mind. It's very similar to Destination Imagination which he did in Mexico last year. Every team chooses a long term problem to solve and present at the regional competition. The team has to work together with no help from adults and met one to two times a week in preparation. They also need to prepare for a spontaneous problem, which they have to discuss, solve, and present on the spot with a limited amount of time.
The regional competition was in Hastings this year and the kids were excited to present their problem and see how they do compared to other schools in the area.

Third place!
I think it was a surprise to everyone when Ethan's team ended up getting third out of nine teams. They had a great long term performance, but, we found out later, it was their spontaneous scores (they got perfect!) that pulled them into third and sent them to the state competition in April.
