Teotihuacan

Since we moved here, James has been wanting to go to Teotihuacan to see the pyramids. We finally planned a trip when his mom came to visit. We invited two other families with us and had a great time. There were 7 adults and 9 kids (all gringos) so we were quite a sight.


We caravanned from Queretaro, not completely knowing where we were going, but hopeful. One of the highways we had to take is a new highway that none of us have every been on. We were on that highway for almost an hour and did not pass a bathroom. About halfway, at least one person in each car had to go to the bathroom, so we ended up stopping on the side of the road, 4 adults dispersed through the weeds...

We made it to the pyramids without a problem and they were amazing! I took (and posted) way too many pictures and, of course, they don't do it justice. When you think about how old they are and how they were built, it's pretty unbelievable.

After we walked around the pyramids for a couple of hours, we went to eat at La Gruta. It's a restaurant that is in a Cave. It was one of the coolest restaurants I've ever eaten in! It was so fun with all of the candles and lighting and they even had a show while we were there!

I was glad that we were there for the show. They came out in traditional outfits and blowing in Conch shells. They did a dance and then one of the guys did a show with fire. Nolan was sitting right next to the stage. When they were doing the dancing, he would not look at the stage (it was like he was embarrassed), but as soon as the fire came out, he was glued. I thought for sure we'd catch him playing with fire that night!
