We started off Christmas Eve by going to church. Ethan was able to come in with us and enjoy the beautiful candlelight service. He was reluctant to light his candle at first, but eventually got up the courage (and then didn't want to blow it out). The music was wonderful and Ethan didn't complain too much during the sermon. After church, we headed to Red Lobster for dinner. Ethan had been asking for Red Lobster for a very long time because he loves the fish on the kid's menu. Unfortunately, Ethan spent some time in the bathroom right before our dinner came and was not so excited about the fish this visit. It's not exactly relaxing going out to dinner with three kids under 5, but we managed, as always.
We have the tradition of opening the gifts from mom and dad on Christmas Eve which is always a new ornament (usually something that means something for that year) and matching pajamas. Both of the boys were very excited about their transformer (Ethan) and guitar (Nolan) ornaments. Nolan immediately put his ornament on the tree and proceeded to get his guitar and rock out for Lydia. Before bed we heard Nolan singing, but we couldn't figure out what he was saying. We finally put it together that he was singing "Happy Birthday to You" because they sang Happy Birthday to Jesus in his class at church. It was really cute and good to know that Nolan is getting something from church already!
This Christmas morning was the first one we've gotten to spend at home since Ethan's first Christmas. We've always been in Detroit at James' parents house and have to celebrate our Christmas early. It was nice to be home and it really felt like Christmas. We started the morning with James going downstairs to make sure Santa came (and turn lights on, etc....) while I read about Jesus' birth to the boys. We then proceeded to go downstairs to open presents. Ethan's favorite gift was his "biggest Transformer," Nolan's was his "elphant mobie" (Horton Hears a Who), and Lydia's was her stroller walker.
In the afternoon we were headed to Detroit to be with James' family. His sister and her family, his brother, and his "Nona" were all at his parent's house. We opened more gifts there and then the kids got to play with their cousin, Trae. Trae is 18 months and he and Nolan get along really well. It's so cute to see them develop relationships. Although it was loud and crazy for some people, we all had a great time.
